Steak Heaven

For far too long Peter Luger’s Steakhouse has been on “the list.” Needless to say it did not disappoint. Peter Luger’s is a Brooklyn classic – the top steakhouse in New York for 28 years and running, with a Michelin Star and limitless accolades to its name. For some, the ambiance is definitely a draw, but for five young women, let me tell you we were there just for the food. We kicked it off with a few slabs of thick cut bacon and the tomatoes and onions.  I’m guessing they throw these hunks of pork under a broiler to crisp them into slices of heavenly fat. The famous sauce pretty much gets slathered on everything — you can also buy it to go but it might not last long! Then the USDA Prime “Steak for two” is quite simply how porterhouse should always be. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare and sliced off the bone, the cut is flawless and aged beautifully, with a char that adds the perfect crunch to every bite. The sides weren’t anything to write home about – the German potatoes were fine, but the creamed spinach and the veggies were not to be remembered. One thing you can’t leave without is a Holy Cow Hot Fudge Sunday — get the schlag on the side and plenty of spoons.
